About Rainforest Trust
Rainforest Trust saves endangered wildlife and protects our planet by creating rainforest reserves through partnerships, community engagement and donor support. To date the Rainforest Trust has protected more than 42 million acres of tropical habitat across more than 68 countries in Latin America, Africa, Asia and the Pacific. Rainforest Trust creates legally-recognized protected areas where forests and their species can continue contributing to the health of the global ecosystem. These protected areas are established through direct land purchase; designation in cooperation with governments and communities; and community-managed areas that secure communal lands occupied by indigenous groups which depend on the land for their survival.
The challenge
The Rainforest Trust has over 80 partners that help to protect the millions of acres of protected forests globally that safeguard critical habitat for threatened and endangered species. These partners work closely with their national governments and local communities to formally establish reserves protecting the land. Deforestation is a critical threat in these areas that are under the protection from the Trust and their partners.
A key challenge with the protection of these areas is the near real time detection of deforestation and the delivery of actionable alerts. These alerts are critical in the prioritization of field activities and intervention in illegal activities resulting in deforestation.
The solution
TraceMark provides global deforestation monitoring and near real time alerts using industry leading Google Geospatial technology and a range of Satellite monitoring programs.
TraceMark was specifically tailored for the needs of Rainforest Trust who required the delivery of actionable alerts (fire and deforestation) for their team who manages over 42 million acres of protected land.
With such a large area to monitor and over 1200 individual areas to cover the key requirement was for TraceMark to distill alerts into the key areas of interest and deliver them through an email workflow that highlighted the areas of concern on a regular basis.
TraceMark is delivered as a hosted solution to Rainforest Trust that has been tailored to their specific needs to deliver a high value, targeted monitoring platform that will evolve with the needs of Rainforest trust.
